It was a pretty even start with both teams cancelling each other out. Villa are a tough team to play against and they play a good style of football trying to get it down and pass it so it was always going to be a tough game.
But eventually, we started to get on top and create chances and the opener came, a ball from Jamie Robinson was met by an acrobatic effort from Glen Kavanagh but it was met by an unbelievable save by the Villa no.1. However luckily Shane O’Connor sharp as ever followed in the rebound and tapped home for 1-0.

As half time approached we got a free kick from 25 yards out. Danny Moore hit a peach of a strike that the Villa keeper could do nothing about for 2-0.
We got a third after half time when Shane O’Connor cut the ball back past the defender and buried one home for 3-0.

Villa got one back after the ball fell kindly to their striker and his low-driven effort went through a couple of bodies and past Kieran narrowly for 3-1.
We restored our 3-goal advantage back however when Shane O’Connor hit a low-driven effort of his own perfectly into the bottom corner for 4-1. A sweet finish to gain his hat-trick and incredibly his 8th goal in 2 games.

We had a fifth when Jack Walsh impressively raced through behind the backline and his ruthless strike went past the Villa keeper to make it 5-1.

Villa got a late goal to make it 5-2 when one of their players hit an incredible mid-air flick that went straight into the path of their players to finish for 5-2. Credit where it’s due that was an incredible bit of skill.
Not long later the full-time whistle sounded and a 5-2 victory in our first home game since October. Overall a fantastic win, maybe didn’t play as well as we normally would as Villa did indeed make it hard for us with their impressive style of play but a good victory overall and if we can win like that without playing to our full standard then we can step it up again for the run into the season. No game this weekend and no fixture out for the following week at the time of writing but updates will be posted on our pages in due course.
