Crazy game at the RSC today! A goal fest occurred that sent both teams away with a point.
We took an early lead when Peter Grogan jumped highest to thump in a header for 1-0.
However only a short few minutes later Rathgormack got back on level terms after some good play down the left culminated in a chance from the edge of the box that was expertly finished for 1-1.
But we would soon retake the lead and what a goal to do it. Glen Kavanagh went on a great run and thumped a shot from the edge of the box into the bottom corner for 2-1. An incredible goal from the man in form.
But an equally good goal would level the scores again. A stunning free kick from 25 yards that could not have been any further in the top corner made it level again. In truth we were slightly disappointed not to have gotten a free kick in the build up to Rathgormack getting their free kick but we had to forget it and regroup.
Regroup we did and some good play down the left culminated in a great ball across and Glen Kavanagh poached expertly to get us back in front. 6 goals in 3 games for Glen now!
Just on the stroke of half time unfortunately a cross into the box deceived everyone and ended up in the corner of the net for 3-3. A crazy first half.
Midway through the second half Rathgormack took the lead for the first time, a stunning acrobatic effort hit the bar but unfortunately for us bounced kindly to them and they made no mistake to make it 4-3.
However the lads didn’t give up and battled hard and late on a shot from the left saw the keeper make a save that spilled the ball to the goal line and Peter Grogan was on hand to poach to make it 4-4! Peter with two goals in this game to make it four for the season for him.
Sadly we couldn’t get a late winner and the game ended 4-4 with a point apiece. A draw a fair result in truth. To the lads credit they admitted it could have been better from us. But we also focus on the positives, in our first season we won 1 from 11 and lost 7 before covid curtailed the season. Now we find ourselves undefeated at the midway point of the season with 6 wins and 3 draws. That is an achievement in itself to be proud of and had that have been offered at the start of the season we would have snapped a hand off for it. So the boys can be proud of their efforts and hard work in this first half of the season. As we enter a well deserved winter break now we can be happy with our efforts and recharge the batteries. As the second half of the season approaches in what will be Kilbarry’s 50th anniversary a new chapter begins. Come cheer on the lads for a big second half of the season after Christmas!
