We made the trip to play league newcomers Cappoquin Railway on Saturday. Well what to say about this game, it was crazy! Followed by a crazy scoreline, which probably doesn’t reflect how comfortable we were for the majority of the game.

We got off to a disastrous start conceding two goals early on, one from a good header and another from a cross which ended up going goal bound and over our stand in keeper Conor Houlihan’s head.

After getting to grips with our surroundings however we responded fantastically. A great pull back allowed Daniel Mihalache notch his first of the season with an emphatic finish into the roof of the net from 15 yards out.

And we were level not long later, Conor Hennessy bullied his way through and his emphatic finish squirmed over the line for 2-2.

Not long later great work from Glen Kavanagh allowed him to dribble his way through challenges into the box and he finished emphatically to also net his first of the season. Good to see last years top scorer open his account for the year. The comeback was complete before the first half was even over. Crazy altogether.

It would get better again as Conor Hennessy once again got in through on goal and a calm finish past the keeper meant we went into half time 4-2 up despite being 2-0 down in 5 minutes.

Just after the second half we were awarded a penalty for a handball and Conor Hennessy stepped up and got his third and his first Kilbarry hat-trick. Conor was in inspired form all day and was simply unplayable, a great attitude matched with great ability Conor has the potential to be a real leader for this group. Conor now has 6 goals in 5 league games for the club... and we all know Conor can go up another level again!

A good cross across the box was met by a good run by Jack Walsh who got on the end of it to make it 6-2. Jack’s second of the season and it was deserved for a terrific display.

Yet another man claimed his first of the season not long later, substitute Sam Hogan managed to poke the ball past the keeper with a cool finish from the right wing to make it 7-2.

From here we made some subs which took a bit of time to get into the flow of the game and we conceded two frustrating consolations in quick succession but we settled again and saw out another 3 points. Congratulations to Jamie Dalton, Don Casey and John Phelan who made their competitive debuts for the club on Saturday.

So all in all a mad score line, we were disappointed to get off to a bad start but we reacted brilliantly, the two consolations conceded were a minor negative and the scoreline maybe didn’t reflect the level of dominance we had for large periods of the game. But it was great to see all the attackers on the scoresheet and it bodes well going forward.

Next Saturday we welcome Mooncoin Celtic to the RSC with a 2pm kick off, it’s a big game as we look to maintain our great start, Mooncoin have started slow but can’t be underestimated as they were excellent last year so we must be focused from the start to hopefully gain another big 3 points. All support is always welcome!
